FINALLY! Can you prove God exists? If you can I won't ask again!
by punkofnice ini have seen debates and shizzle about god or not god etc etc.. i was even confronted by an aggressive and trheatening muslim in the street, who was angry that i wanted proof that god existed.
he ranted on a load of old b0110cks about 'hell' and stuff.
finally he yelled at me: 'do you want god to write your name in the sky?

Folks, I am beside myself!
Mrs. called the JWs a CULT! I, for certain, couldn’t believe my ears at first.
Quick background info first: Mrs. is a second generation successfully faded JW. I am not, never have been (although I “studied” at one point few years ago). For now I am the UBM.
Mrs’ fade was more a matter of convenience – she hates getting all dressed up and ready and be there at certain hour with 2 kids in tow. She used my discontinuation of the “study” couple of years ago to stop going as well and has since been pretty much silent about it (kinda out of sight, out of mind), although if JW subjects came up and I expressed doubts, her apologetics programming kicked in and I just let it go…
On Saturday we were out late (went gambling ) and on the way back home had to swing by a 24 Hr store to pick up an item. So we drive by the Hall we used to attend and out of nowhere Mrs’ says:
“I can’t believe these poor people still go to meetings every week, and waste their time in field service, and all that for what? The JWs have been saying ‘The End is Near’ for years….It is amazing how cults have such a grip on people”.
I barely held on to the steering wheel.
Come again, who has grip on people? CULTS?!
I wanted to jump and scream and say thank you whatever made her finally think….
Instead, I only said: “Yes, I have read something about a model describing how cults entrap people called BITE by someone Hassan, or something. Check it out when you feel like it.”
I can see Mrs. pretty much a non JW at this point, just hope that she will read about the BITE model to eliminate any residual programming.
I also realize it is probably difficult for her with deceased parents and a dear grandmother, all strict JWs, to accept that she will not be seeing them again on paradise earth… I realize that and want to applaud her for finally thinking rationally. Only thing is I can’t ask or push for now. Will let her come to terms with it on her own timetable.
I am writing this in hope to give encouragement to people with a spouse or loved one still in: Don’t give up! I never thought in a million years that I will hear the word CULT out of my dear wife’s mouth. Stick by them, show them love and don’t push.
Thanks for letting me express my joy here, as it is not the time yet to share it with Mrs.
Needless to say, I am having a great day!

the local publishers seem to be jumping on the e-reader bandwagon.. sisters even in their 70's are showing up at the hall with ipads loaded with publications for the meetings for crying out loud!.
a couple of these elderly sisters are having me get theirs ready ... should i add coc and captives of a concept ... perhaps studies vol vii ... to the library for them.

Why does JW.org need a registered trademark?
by cedars ini've just noticed that the logo for jw.org is a registered trademark.. this is how the logo appears on the back cover of the new magazines.... .
maybe i'm overthinking this, but i'm struggling to understand why a website for a religious organization that purports to be involved in not-for-profit educational work needs to register a trademark for its website.
a trademark is something commercial companies use to protect their goods or services.

"Jehovah - The Great Trademarker"
Sounds like a great slogan.
Better hurry up and trademark it: Jehovah - The Great Trademarker TM

Mid 1980's in Northern Ireland.
A man is grabbed from behind, a knife pointed at his neck.
Asks the assailant, "Are you a Catholic or a Protestant"?
The man thinks quickly, knowing that the wrong answer can get him killed.
" I am Jewish"
"Allah Akbar"!, says the assailant, "aren't I the luckiest Palestininan in Belfast"!

JW - Miami Bus Crash - Update Miami Herald - Wed 5 Dec. 2012
by RubaDub inalready late for work, but there is a leading article in todays miami herald (wed 5 dec 2012, english version) about the bus crash on saturday that killed 2 brothers and injurred about 25 others on their way to the west palm beach assembly.. much of the article focusses on the comments by one of the airport police who first arrived on the scene.
basically the two who died were side-by-side on the second row, crushed by the roof of the bus.
three others are still in critical condition.. sorry i have to run but someone can detail this later.. rub a dub.

This is very sad. The fact that they're JW's is irrelevent....
I have to disagree, snakeface. It is VERY relevant, at a minimum because of this:
Lopez, now out of gauze, told rescue workers that the victims were all Jehovah’s Witnesses, and couldn’t receive blood transfusions because of their faith....

Minimus' Post Gave Me Courage To Finally Post My Questions, New Here
by toweragent ini have been "lurking" for about four years now.. it was an incredibly weird experience just to look at a site like jwn or freeminds.
he came off very loving.. so, i decided that i would talk to one of my elders about the things i read.
if any of you have time to read this, thank you.

Welcome toweragent!
Let me get to it:
You ask: "How can I be SURE that the Watchtower organization is NOT being used by Jehovah? How can I be sure that they just haven't gone astray like the apostate nation of Israel?"
It is NOT your job to prove that the Watchtower is not used by Jehovah. It is the Watchtower's job to PROVE that it is used by Jehovah. (and so far they have failed repeadetly and miserably in doing so).
If it doesn't make sense at first, read it again and again until you understand that one of the easiest tricks the WT pulls is the shift of the burden of proof.
As sir82 mentiones above, if they have not DEMONSTRATED to you that they have the true sign of christianity - love, there is nothing more required of you. You do not have to prove to them that they are not loving.
EDIT: Also, think carefully about all things you "know" about Jehovah's Witnesses - their unity, their true love for one another, their pure bible teachings, their neutrality and separation from the world, etc....in other words all signs and things that make JWs unique.
Think about all of them and try to remember did YOU come to all of the above conclusions, or did the JWs kept repeating them ad nauseum, unitl the assertions became second nature to you and infact your own beliefs.
This is important, as it outlines a basic and wildly effective propaganda technique.
All the best with waking up your wife!

New Pattern regarding Science in the Awake
by konceptual99 inreading the first couple of awakes for 2013 i think there is a pattern developing.. they have the regular "could it have happened by chance" article on something amazing in nature but they are also interviewing a scientist who is also a witness.
this is a pretty interesting tack on a number of levels.. firstly it is sending out the implicit message that "look, this educated person accepts creation, the flood and every other account that is at odds with generally accepted science, so that should give you confidence that you are right as well".
secondly, as a magazine designed for public comsumption is suggests to non-witnesses that there are many well educated people who accept the bible.

Oh, paleeease.
If the interviewed bozo is so easily swayed by no other piece of scientific work but the book "Life—How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation?", then I can't think highly enough of his credentials as a "scientist (end quote).
Look at the few gems he is supposedly saying:
"I was especially impressed with the research that goes into their publications. Solid research appeals to people like me, who want to probe into the details of things." Mmmmkay
" My sister gave me a copy of the book Life—How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation? published by the Witnesses. The careful research that had gone into this work impressed me." Careful research?! - Gimme a break!
" I was taught that life originated by means of evolution, and I accepted that as fact."This is supposedly when he was young, and IMO, deliberately thrown there in all its innacuracy to be contrasted with his current understanding, now that he is a scientist and a JW, that we must have a creator.
And many others. I started deconstructing the article yesterday only to quickly give up after realizing the amount of nonsense in it.

From a "Chance" to "Evolution"
by Yan Bibiyan ini just noticed today a monumental shift in the awake (well, not really monumental .
in the "was it designed" section, the closing paragraph up until the april 2012 issue reads:.
"did the (studied subject) come about by chance?

I just noticed today a monumental shift in the Awake (well, not really monumental ).
In the "Was it Designed" section, the closing paragraph up until the April 2012 issue reads:
"Did the (studied subject) come about by chance? Or was it designed?"
Since April 2012 it reads: "Did the (studied subject) come about by evolution? Or was it designed?"
Is the WT now hardline against evolution, admitting that the possibility of a chance still exists?
Anyone else noticed that..or do I have too much time in my hands
